Hot rods and custom cars for sale

"Some Tips On Writing A "Hot Rod For Sale" Ad"

Classified ads should include a brief description, good photos and contact information for the seller.

If you have a street rod or muscle car in Central Texas that you would like to list here, call us at 512-462-9855, or email us at classified ad for vehicles outside the area.

The basic things that must be included in your ad are:

1.Year and body style, as complete as possible. For instance: "1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe" or "1940 Ford Standard Coupe"

2. Engine size and any modifications to that engine. Include enough information about the engine to show whether it is an all out racing motor or just a nice, dependable power plant.

3. Chassis and suspension, including any modifications. For instance "Stock '40 Ford frame (fully boxed), with Mustang II front suspension."

4. Brakes. Buyers want to know if they are power brakes or not, does it have discs (and what size disc) on the front or the front and back. Or are they hydraulic brakes with a power booster and Buick brake drums? Again, brakes are a very important part of any Hot Rod, Muscle Car or Specialty Vehicle, and something that all potential buyers ask about.

5. Gearing. The very serious buyer usually wants to know what the gears in the rear end are, as well as what kind of transmission it has. If you know the gear ratio, include it.

6. Price. Be very clear.

There are several things that we get asked here at Street Rods Forever about the vehicles we offer for sale that the average person selling the vehicle has not considered.

"How many miles does it have?" or "How long have they owned the car?" This question usually tells us that the person asking either:

1. Has never bought a Hot Rod, Muscle Car or Specialty Vehicle before. Or

2. They are asking in a round about way how long ago the car was built.

But regardless of their reasons for asking, it is a valid question and if there is a way of knowing the mileage on your vehicle, or how long ago it was built, include it in your ad. Or include how long ago any engine modifications or other changes took place.

"Is there any rust?" This is also a completely valid question. If there IS any rust on your vehicle, whether it is a major factor or a minor thing, include it in your ad. People are usually traveling out of their area to look at these cars and will still make the trip even if they know ahead of time that "is has a small rust area in the trunk". But nothing sours a deal quicker than finding rust on a vehicle when you were told that there was none. This applies to any faults or shortcomings that the vehicle may have…..tell them about it. Buyers like to make up their own mind about these things, and will still purchase a vehicle with faults, but not one with surprises!

"What is the bottom line price?" Either be prepared to stand steady on whatever price you put in the ad or at least know for sure how much you are willing to come down in price. You might consider including "O.B.O." (Or Best Offer) if that is an option.

"Would you consider a trade?" This comes up constantly. Include something like "No Trades" or "Will consider the right trade".

Your ad is not a creative writing assignment….keep it to the facts.
