Hot rods and custom cars for sale

"Photo Techniques For Ads"

Classified ads should include a brief description, good photos and contact information for the seller.

If you have a street rod or muscle car in Central Texas that you would like to list here, call us at 512-633-7591, or email us at classified ad for vehicles outside the area.

There are a few basic rules to follow to get the best picture possible of your car to place in your Street Rods Forever ad.

1. Don't worry about the background. In fact, you should fill the viewfinder of your camera with your car. Most people have a tendency to leave too much area around the vehicle, which reduces the size of the car in the photo.

TOO FAR AWAY

If you step just a little closer to the car, the picture above will look like the picture below, which shows off the car to its best advantage

BETTER FRAMING

2. Always shoot from a ¾ angle rather than straight side or front shots.

POOR ANGLE

This side view is not as interesting as a ¾ view.

GOOD LOW ANGLE SHOWS SIDE AND BACK

This low-angle ¾ view makes shows off the car to it's best advantage.

3. Always include:

  • a. Front ¾ view
  • b. Rear ¾ view
  • c. Interior view
  • d. Open hood view

Your interior photo should be taken from far enough away to show as much as possible. This photo shows too little of the interior.

TOO CLOSE

Taken from the same angle, but slightly farther away, this photo includes things like the door panels, seats, window moldings….all things that prospective buyer will be interested in.

WIDE INTERIOR SHOT SHOWS MORE FEATURES

When shooting the engine compartment, be sure to pick an angle that includes ALL the engine…..buyers don't want to see just the air cleaner or just the firewall.

This photo doesn't show off all the engine.

ENGINE DETAIL LOST IN SHADOWS

This one does.

WELL LIT AND FOCUSED

When taking photos outdoors, where most automotive pictures are done, the best conditions are actually an overcast day in most cases. Bright sunlight will produce too much contrast, particularly shots of the engine and interior where there will be shadows.
